Double-start at YouTooday – a testimonial
“Akwaba”. I remember the big sign in the morning dawn welcoming me to Abidjan when I stepped out the International Airport. “Welcome” it said in Baoulé, one of about 70 national languages. Coming from Germany and setting foot in the Ivory Coast for the first time, let alone onto the African continent, I was pretty wowed by its cultural diversity, especially regarding languages and ethnic groups.
I presumed hence the Ivory Coast to be a split country, each group living culturally isolated in its own community. However, thanks to the local Association Network of Active Women in Africa (RAFAA, French: Réseau des Associations des Femmes Actives d’Afrique) I quickly dissociated myself from this impression that I got when I arrived two weeks ago.
In line with its vision of reducing gender inequalities by helping women in rural Ivory Coast to become financially, socially and economically more independent, the RAFAA has currently engaged itself in a radio distribution project in partnership with four students of the French engineer school Paris Mine Tech. The purpose of this project is to equip cut-off villages with solar energy powered radios to ensure a constant flow of educational information to these isolated areas.
As YouTooday’s new Trainee in Marketing and Sales, I am happy to encourage Positive Impact Makers and local associations or NGOs in realizing their ideas. I appreciate every time I witness the flourishing of their inspirational projects, determined to do some good to people and our planet.
The successful cooperation on the radio project between the RAFAA in Abidjan and Paris Mine Tech, France is only one of various examples of what can be done to contribute to a better and sustainable world for all.
A new adventure has been launched both for the RAFAA and for me at YouTooday. What I like most about it? There is so much more coming up!
